Ok, you are going to be hard pressed to find stuff in older Northern documentation about him being a murderer. He was by and large considered a martyr especially by abolitionists of the time. However, he also was equally demonized by Southerners who pointed out that he even killed people not directly related to the slave trade/ owning and that he was a cold blooded killer.
You can always make the point that Brown acted unlawfully by being the judge, jury, and executioner, rather than pursuing lawful avenues of just recourse.

I think that John Brown is a hero. He tried to free four million slaves. He might have killed people while trying to achieve it, but that's how much he cares. He was already known as an anti-slavery activist. He cared so much, that he was hung.
I believe that brown is a villain. I say this because at minutes 1:58 it says brown led an army into pottawatomie, and brutally killed 5 pro slavery supporters. Just because they were supporting wat they have always known, they were brutally killed for living there life the way they have always known.
In my opinion John Brown was one of the best Anti-Slavery activist there is.Just out of pure bravery he willingly formed an army to free as many slaves as possible;with him doing this,this opened many peoples eyes about how important slavery really is and what these people are actually doing to other humans.
He was a martyr because he killed for a reason. He was a hero because he helped start the revolutionary war. Without him, slavery wouldn't have ended. U cannot compare him to just any terrorist today because he faught for freedom,he fought to save the slaves that where in the south. He wanted slavery to end.

In my opinion I believe that John Brown is a martyr or hero because if it wasn't forJohn Brown's Raid than the civil war wouldn't have started, in other words slavery could still exist in the United States today. His raid was the start of the civil war or the leading event into the civil war. Someone might have said that he did it for his own reasonings but I believe that him giving the black child a kiss had a deeper meaning behind it. During this time, whites and blacks were seperated, never in contact. So he really did have a intention to free all of the slaves.
