Describe how canals impacted travel and trade in the 1840s and 50s. Be sure to compare at least 2 other types of travel available during this time.

In the 1840 the canal banks were reinforced to accommodate steam tugboats pulling barges and by the 1850 the US had more than 3,600 miles of canals. Canals lowered the cost of shipping goods and they brought prosperity to the towns along their routes. They helped unite the growing country. Two other developments were turnpikes and steamboats.

Canals connected water travel to port cities. This made a big difference. This was more comfortable than horse or wagon travel. This was also faster.

Travel becomes less expensive and the price of goods go down the seam boat is faster then wagons and sail boats the seam boat can go up stream unlike the sail boat

Canals made travel alot easier and alot faster. It also did this for trade. Compared to wagons it takes alot longer & and there is not enough room to bring everything & everyone you are trading.

Canals Impacted On Travel -& Trade Because With Canals You Could Get Their Easier , -& Too Get Too Places That You Need Too Go -& Its A lot more Faster , Because Their Are No Kind Of Bumps In Rivers ! (Like Their Were In Roads).

Canals Impacted the traveling water by allowing people to cross the rivers more easily and carry things with them. Other types of transportation they could have use was walking and train. those was would be hard to get to small stranded islands. there would be no land to travel on getting to those small islands.

Canals greatly impacted trade and transportation because in the 1840's people would use steamboats to transport cargo to trade posts on main rivers. They also used them to reduce travel time, by using steam boats.

They made transporting goods much easier than before. More goods could be held. Also they did have problems go up hills but they made something to carry them it was a gate that filled with water and made it raise it up to the other level.

steam boats affected trade and travel you could fit more things on it. two other types of travel available walking and wagon they are both the same because you trade either way

Canals have been very helpful to get from place to place. The trades have been easier to do and also fast using the canals. The other types of travel is Conestoga wagon which was mainly used for traveling on the Oregon Trail. Another type of travel is the the steamboat which was used on the canals.

Canals impacted travel and trade in the 1840s when a canal was build across New York, connecting Albany on the Hudson River with Buffalo on Lake Erie , along the canal they built a series of locks, to separate compartments. 2 other types of travel available during this time would be steam boats and turnpikes and toll roads.

The canals impacted the travel and trade because it lowered the cost of shipping goods.also it helped unite the growing country.So if you look at steamboat invention it made shipping goods a lot more cheaper.

Canals had a big impact on trade and travel because it made travel up river faster by using a series of locks to enable water travel between the east and west. Steam boats could move and ship faster but only on existing river systems. the national road also made travel easier but you would travel by land which is slower than by water.

Canals impacted travel and trade in the 1840s and 50s by it was safer and easier then traveling on wagons. the canals were faster then horseback travel.

Canals impacted travel and trade in the 1840's and 50's because they invented steamboats which helped with trading. The used the roads but it was a long bumpy ride while the canals were more comfortable. Also, It is a lot quicker and easier to load boats than wagons. If you used horses it would be hard to carry things.

Canals helped people ship their goods and also helped them sail to wherever they needed to go. Steamboats helped people cross these canals to places they needed to be and to help ship and sell their goods.

Ok...Canals help us because it had transportation of goods go faster so you can get the goods cheaper. Other transportation is wagon, and train.

Traveling with a steamboat was safer and a lot faster then horses and wagons. So it was a big advantage for the people of trade and different things

Canals allowed a way to travel,trade,and sell.Walking was a way to travel and boats were a way to travel.Walking would probably be faster because canals had so many lock gates it took so long to get through them.

Canals hosted trade along their waterways greatly. Canals were faster and easer to travel on than the roads. The roads of the time were notoriously bumpy and if they were muddy you can't move along them at all. And travel on rivers without steam engines was extremely hard.

canals have a impact on travel because traveling on foot takes longer than traveling on water and traveling in a wagon wouldnt take as long as it would on feet but the wagons wheels could get stuck in the mud but canals can hold several hundred pounds in weight and it takes less time to get to place to place

In the 1940-1950 canals helped americans to travel and trade. Also roads and turn pikes witch helped raise money and better trading routes .turn pikes are basically toll booths.Another way to travel back then were rivers, it was way more comfortable than wagons and there could be a bigger load of goods

It was a very bumpy ride because they didn't drive on concrete they drove on logs. This made it an even longer ride to get to the west.

in 1840-1850 canals were good for trading and good Transportation but also it connected albany on the hudson to buffalo on lake erie. Also roads and turnpikes were good for transportation and trade .Roads were used for for traveling and trade routes and turn pikes were used for toll booths.River travel was good also good it gave way more advantages then roads and turnpikes ,they could be packed on with lots of goods

How canals impacted travel in the 1840s and 50s is that they carried tons and tons of goods, which humans cannot and they lowered the cost of shipping goods. Two other types of travel that was available was steam boats and turnpikes.

Canals have impacted travel significantly, they have allowed you to carry alot more in a much shorter time . with a wagon it might be just
as fast but much less comfortable. and with a horse that would be way slower.
