It was a economic and military disaster for the Americans. Goods were rotting on the wharves and the government had defaulted on its debt. States in New England were openly discussing succession and making a separate peace with the British. American invasions of Canada had been repulsed and far from annexing Canada now large parts of Maine were under British control.

The Battle of Lake Erie was a pivotal naval engagement between British and American forces during the War of 1812.At the beginning of the War of 1812, the United States sent Oliver Hazard Perry to command the American forces on Lake Erie. When he arrived in Presque Isle. Perry commissioned several carpenters to build a fleet of ships.http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=476

The battle was joined during the early-morning hours of January 8, 1815. Poor leadership, confusion on the battlefield, the swampy terrain and American tenacity combined to create a debacle for the British Army. Within an hour after it started, the fight was ended with the surrender of the British on the battlefield. The British suffered an estimated 300
killed and 1,200 wounded while the Americans counted 13 killed and 52 wounded or missing.

In the Battle of Lake Erie , the British immediately seized control of Lake Erie, and they already had a small force of warships there. The vessels were controlled by the Provincial Marine, which was a military transport service and not a naval service. The Americans lacked any counter to the British armed vessels.

The Battle of Lake Erie was a battle between the United States and the British over the claim of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. The United States stole six of the British's vessels, giving them their victory. The Battle of New Orleans was one of the last major battles of the War of 1812; it was over the Lousiana Purchase land. But in the end it was United States' victory once again.
