Please read the article linked at the bottom of this post. Before you read, you should know a few things: 1. It is now widely believed that Thomas Jefferson and a slave of his had a child together. The slave's name is Sally Hemmings. 2. Thomas Jefferson owned around 175 slaves and freed only 5 upon his death. Do you think Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite? Why? Be sure to explain yourself. If Jefferson did own slaves then i would think of him as a hypocrite. i think of this because if he says "all are created equal" then he should not own slaves in the first place unless they owed him debt. otherwise i think of him as a hypocrite
I think Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite because in the Decloration of Independence he said " All Men are Created Equal " but he also had somewhere around 175 slaves and only let 5 of them free after his death .
I think Thomas Jefferson was a some type of a hypocrite. I think this because he had slaves, but had a baby with a slave. If he had slaves that should mean he doesn't respect them, he just wants them for their work. He should have had a baby with someone he respected.

I think Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite because he only freed 5 slaves upon his death and in the article he said I'm not a racist but... Also people believed that he thought whites were supreme.
Jefferson was not a hypocrite. A hypocrite is some one that is aginst something ever one is for. But he is for something that no one wales is for. He is not races. He thinks all women showed be counted equal no matter what races.
I think that he was a hypocritical man because he had a baby with a black women but don't change his was about black slaves being free. That is why I think this way.

Also, there's the Jefferson of the the Notes on the State of Virginia which proclaims that whites' are superior. This is all coming from the man who claimed that "all men are created equal". In conclusion with all this evidence, I believe that Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite.

He is hypocrite because since he owned slaves he shouldn't have had kids with a slave because its not fair to the other slaves he had if one gets more rights than the other. Because im sure she got to do more than the other slaves because she was pregnant with his child. And thats not right to me because the other slaves probably had work to do and she didn't do anything because it was his child. And its not fair that he only freed 5 before he died because if he got one pregnant then he shouldn't have been able to own the slaves he had its not fair that one slave gets more rights than the other.
To me I think that Thomas Jefferson was a hipaocrate because, he said "all men are created equally " but if that's the case then why did he have over a 100 slaves and only freed 5 of them
I think that Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite one because he had slaves but he stated "All men are created equal" when he stated that, that was to end slavery and bring the blacks back into the citizenship. No, beacuse declaration of independance does say "all men have equal rights",so why should she be treated diffrent just beacuse of her race….i think that just beacuse shes a slave does not mean that they have to be discriminated beacuse she's a slave and he is not a slave.

Yes. Thomas Jefferson owned 175 slaves. Although he is believed to have had a baby with one of his slaves.(Sally Hemmings). Of all the slave he owned(175), he let go 5 of them. The last face he saw on his death bed was one of the slaves during his final hour of life. I believe that Thomas Jefferson was a hypocrite because he believed that blacks and whites could have relationships but he owned about 175 slaves and only freed approximately 5 of them. It is believed that his child was brought from the impregnation of one of his female slaves, Sally Hemings. To free just a portion of the slaves is an unfair action, favoriting a small amount of them. Why would he own slaves but yet have relations with them. Slaves were looked at as people of less value, but he somewhat presented them as equal residence.

Thomas jefferson - im not a racist but. He said whites are the beautiful color. He thought it would have been nasty and horror to see a black man with a white women. His wish or belief that whites and blacks would never be equal. So i do think that thomas jefferson was a hypocrite.

I think Jefferson was a hypocrite because he lived in a time when most white men owned slaves and he was a typical white man. However, he stated that he believed that “all men are created equal” but did not practice this in his real life. He could have freed all of his slaves and would have then lived like he wrote in the Declaration of Independence. He may have treated his slaves well but we dont know. This my have been his idea to keep slaves from being owned by mean owners.

1: he wrote the Declaration of Independence to give freedom to slave-owning white people
2: he was a slave owner, yet had a kid with one of his slaves
3: He completely shot down Alexander Hamilton's idea of a national bank, but when he became president, he set one up
4: He believed in a government set up giving more power to state governments, but when he was president, he went against those ideas ( Louisiana Purchase, National Bank, Indian Removal act, etc.)

Thomas Jefferson was without a doubt one of the most important figures in American history. He is best known for writing the declaration of independence. Nearly every elementary student in the nation knows his name. He was gifted in the fields of architecture, politics, law, and even science. For all of this to be possible, he must have been somewhat of an iconic figure, right? Right, but the fact that he was a hypocrite cannot be overlooked
