The Battle of Lake Erie proved one of the most resounding triumphs of the War of 1812. The victory secured control of the lake, forcing the British to abandon Fort Malden and retreat up the Thames River. Harrison's army pursued, decisively defeating the small British army and its allied Indian force on October 5, 1813 at the Battle of the Thames. And later, during the peace talks, the dual victories of Lake Erie and the Thames insured that the states of Ohio and Michigan would remain the sovereign territory of the United States of America. http://www.battleoflakeerie-bicentennial.com/historybattle.php

By the early 1980s the Niagara was again severely decayed. International Historic Watercraft Society was contracted to design and build a reconstruction of the Niagara. The present ship is a new vessel, incorporating both known and conjectural design features. Some original timber is installed in non-structural places.
On September 10, 1988, the Niagara was launched in Erie ceremonies marking 175th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie and the ensuing peace between the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Battle of New Orleans was the last major battle of the War of 1812. The fight took place on January 8, 1815 when 7,500 British soldiers marched against 4,500 U.S. troops led by General Andrew Jackson. Jackson defeated the British just 30 minutes, halting their plans to attack New Orleans and establishing himself as a national military hero. The Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war, had been signed two weeks before the battle but the news had not yet crossed the Atlantic.

What happened was when the Americans and the British started the war of 1812, the British already had ships docked in lake erie. The Americans only had about one naval ready ship on lake erie, which was the USS Adams. Soon the British captured the USS Adams and the American thought they had lost this battle. But on September 10, 1813 Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry, took the British by surprise and used 9 navy vessels and won the war. The British had 6 navy vessels on the water at that time, making it easier for the Americans to win.

In the battle of New Orleans was the final major war of 1812. The battle was commanded by General Andrew Jackson. Once they defeated the British the battles ended and their was peace between the Americans and British somewhat again.

The United States declared war on Great Britain June 18, 1812, after years of tired relations created by territorial competition between the two countries over the old Northwest Territory around the Great Lakes, and American sailors during its war with Napoleon. The Royal Navy short of experience seamen, seized men serving in ships of other countries including America.

In September 1813, Perry set sail for Put-In Bay to meet the British fleet, which was under the command of Robert Heriot Barclay. British were thinking that they had an easy victory. Eventhough the Americans had them outnumbered 9-6, but the British had more accurate missles from longer range. The British destroyed the Lawrence and that is when the Americans started coming back. The Americans WON the battle of Lake Erie.

When the war broke out, the British immediately seized control of Lake Erie. They already had a small force of warships there: the sloop of war Queen Charlotte and the brig General Hunter. The brig Lady Prevost was under construction and was put into service a few weeks after the outbreak of war. These vessels were controlled by the Provincial Marine, which was a military transport service and not a naval service. Nevertheless, the Americans lacked any counter to the British armed vessels. The only American warship on Lake Erie, the brig USS Adams, was not ready for service at the start of the war, and when the American army of Brigadier General William Hull abandoned its invasion of Canada, the Adams was pinned down in Detroit by the British batteries at Sandwich on the Canadian side of the Detroit River. The British Major-General Isaac Brock used his control of the lake to defeat Hull's army at the Siege of Detroit, by cutting the American supply lines and rapidly transferring himself and some reinforcements to Amherstburg from where they launched a successful landing on the American side of the Detroit River.
The British took the Adams when Detroit was surrendered, renaming her HMS Detroit. Together with the brig Caledonia, which had been commandeered from the Canadian North West Company, she was boarded and captured near Fort Erie on 9 October, by American sailors and soldiers led by Lieutenant Jesse Elliot. The Detroit ran aground on an island in the middle of the Niagara River and was set on fire to prevent her being recaptured. The Caledonia was taken to the navy yard at Black Rock and commissioned into the United States Navy.[3] Also present at Black Rock were the schooners Somers and Ohio and the sloop-rigged Trippe, which had all been purchased by the United States Navy and were being converted into gunboats.[4] While the British held Fort Erie and the nearby batteries which dominated the Niagara River, all these vessels were pinned down and unable to leave Black Rock.

In the morning of September 10th, 1813 6 British ships sailed toward the Put-in-Bay which was American Territory. So 9 American ships that were smaller than the 6 British ships began to sail toward the British, hoping the wind would be to their backs. When Perry's boat was basically destroyed he switched to another boat the "Niagara" and went toward the British who surrendered. Americans won. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/328141/Battle-of-Lake-Erie
The Battle of New Orleans was basically a war the was unnecessary between the British and Americans. This war was started before the news of the Treaty of Ghent was received by the people in the war. The Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815 and was the final major battle of the War of 1812.[6][7] American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson, defeated an invading British Army intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast territory the United States had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase.[8][9][10] The Treaty of Ghent, having been signed on December 24, 1814, was ratified by the Prince Regent on December 30, 1814 and the United States Senate on February 16, 1815. Hostilities continued until late February when official dispatches announcing the peace reached the combatants in Louisiana, finally putting an end to the war.[11][12] The Battle of New Orleans is widely regarded as the greatest American land victory of the war. got on wiwki battle of new orlines

Jackson arrived in the city on December 2, 1814 and found its citizens in near-panic. A British naval force appeared on near-by Lake Borgne on December 12 and quickly destroyed the American defenses there. By December 23 the British land force was only 8 miles south of the city. Jackson announced to the British that he was ready to fight by immediately launching an attack. Rebuffed, Jackson retreated only three miles towards the city where he ordered the digging of a watery trench bordered by a massive breastwork that stretched some 1000 yards from the swamps to the Mississippi River. Here, Jackson would make his stand.

In the battle of New Orleans is the rest of the war had been won with a tie and had ended with peace negotiations as the treaty of Ghent. Word of the war being called a tie, wasn't able to reach the british forces readying to fleet Louisiana. They wanted to seperate Louisiana from the rest of the US so the British had some sort of place in the Americas. But when they arrived in Louisiana, thye were met by General Andrew Jackson and militiamen. The Americans did win the battle; but soon they found out that the whole war had been over and there was a peace treaty being discussed in Belgium.

Nine ships of the United States Navy defeated and captured six ship of Great Britain's Royal Navy. This ensured American control of the lake for the rest of the war, which in turn allowed the Americans to recover Detroit and win the Battle of the Thames.
