The years following the end of the American Revolutionary War were turbulent. France underwent its own revolution beginning in 1789, and that nation quickly descended into terror. Great Britain organized seven different international coalitions between 1793 and 1815 to overthrow the French revolutionary government, which was led from 1797 by Napoleon Bonaparte.During this period, many Americans thought it only right that the United States go to war on France’s behalf, returning the favor France had done them by coming to the Americans’ aid during the American Revolution.

Several things led to the war, but the final issue was the forced 'service' of US Sailors in the British Navy. Aka when they captured them.

The United States declared war in 1812 Because, We traded with both countries, was caught in the middle. Britain blocked all French seaports and insisted that U.S. ships first stop at a British port and pay a fee before continuing to France. Britian was also interfering in the affairs of Canada, America's neighbor.

One cause of the war of 1812 is americans breaking a trade rule mad in 1756. This caused more ships to be seized by the british. The british blocked many water routes making trade difficult for the americans. James Madison was tricked into putting a law that didn't allow negotiations. The orders in council were repealed but not early enough to prevent the war. I found my information at http://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia/history/war-1812-causes-war.html

http://www.history.com/topics/war-of-1812 The main reason why the U.S. had a war with Britan, is that both France and Britan restricted the U.S from trading with each other, congress decided that if either Frace or Britan would drop the trading restrictions, congress would non-intercourse with the opposing power ( the power or country that didnt put off its restrictions to the U.S. ). later congress decided to go to war with great Britan after Napolen hinted that he would drop the charges restricting the U.S. from trading, in turn the U.S. also stopped trying to trade with Britan after Napolen decided to drop the charges.

One reason is warships from both sides attacked each other merchant ships. Both fought on the American Canadian frontier which ran along the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River.
